This page outlines the general criteria that apply to all three categories and to the functioning of the awards process. There are additional specific criteria pertinent to each category that should be read in conjunction with this page.

General Criteria

These awards have been established to give recognition to the profession of fundraising and to recognise exceptional achievement within the fundraising community. All nominations are marked against the published criteria on this website by a panel of impartial judges .

Who can nominate?

Nominations can be made by all fundraisers, charitable organisations and interested parties. Self-nomination by an organisation is also possible in the case of the 'Campaign of the Year' category only. Applicants can make as many nominations as they wish. There is no charge to make a nomination. Additional eligibility criteria specific to each category is provided in each category description.

Nomination deadline

All entry forms must be received by email by 5.00pm on September 1st 2009. No entries will be accepted after this date.

Who can be nominated?

Any organisation, which has a CHY number in Ireland, and which is independently governed, or any individual who works with such an organisation (paid or unpaid as the case may be, depending on the category) may win an award. Organisations which have CHY numbers, but which are not completely independent of the state are ineligible to be nominated, e.g. Pobal, HSE, partnership companies. The judges reserve the right to request a copy of the organisation's governing document to clarify in cases of doubt.

Authenticity guarantee

Applicants must confirm that what they have written in their nomination, to the best of their knowledge, is legal, decent, honest and truthful. The presenters of these awards and the judging panel reserve the right to ask for additional information from the charity, and to make enquiries of the charity where appropriate.

What qualify as fundraising?

  • Any gift made to an organisation with a CHY number
  • Any income from sponsorship
  • Any gifts made by businesses and other corporate bodies where no significant consideration has been made by the charity in return for the gift
  • Gifts in kind, whether staff time, professional services, equipment, facilities etc. These should be valued at whatever it would have cost the charity to have purchased or bought in the same staff time, equipment etc.

What does not count as fundraising?

  • Any payment, grant or other receipt from Government, or an agency of the state, where the ultimate source of the funds is the exchequer, or any revenue generated by the charitable organisation in the course of carrying out its work
  • Commercial transactions with other organisations whether for-profit or not-for-profit, other than sponsorship.
